Cherbourg
The Challenger DCNS de Cherbourg is a tennis tournament played on indoor hard courts part of the ATP Challenger Tour. It is held annually at the Complexe Sportif Chantereyne in Cherbourg, France. The surface is Greenset, which is a medium fast with good bounce and powerful servers and attacking baseliners should have the edge here. In the last six years, a French player is a presence in the final. Defending champion is Arnaud Clement. Good luck and bet smart.

Вот пример анализа матчей одного из кругов с этого турнира того времени
Sluiter Raemon (NED) vs. Desein Niels (BEL) – The veteran Sluiter failed to qualify for Rotterdam and Zagreb and lost in first round in Belgrade Challenger easily to Kindlman. Sluiter is a good baseliner with solid double-handed shots and he has all the weapons for indoors with slices, strong serve and good volleys, and knows how and when to use them. He likes to play indoors and has a good record. Desein is still young and has limited experience indoors, he is only 7/10 in his career in Challenger level. He played only one match this year, in qualification for Marseille. He has an overall game suit for all surfaces with solid serve and solid baseline display. We rate Sluiter the better player on this surface and we back him to take this one, he served well against Kindlman and only his ground game looked poor, but he played more matches then Desein this year.
Haider-Maurer Andreas (AUT) vs. Vliegen Kristof (BEL) – Dangerous match here. Kristof Vliegen returned to action in the Australian Open after 6 months out with injury ( hip/back) and a mysterious virus which threatened his career. "In July last year the problems started." – said Vliegen. "Rheumatic pain. They thought it was my hip. But the cause lay elsewhere. A blood test brought a virus to light. I do not know how I got this. It is caught through saliva, according to the doctors. But I could not play tennis. I could not drive, I could not dress. " He lost easily in first round to Berrer. Haider-Maurer was a hope for Austrian tennis but suffered a lot of injuries this year. He is an all around player and has some success on this surface, he is a tough server with solid backhand and strong forehand but his form is poor recently, he won only one match in qualification for Johannesburg. The odds favor Vligen but we can’t back him now and we back Haider-Maurer with a low stake.
*In some bookies handicap on Haider-Maurer is +3,5 and this should be a secure bet then the low odds on Vliegen and if you don't want to risk money on Maurer straight win, but only if you have this kind of bet on your bookie.Eysseric Jonathan (FRA) vs. Hrbaty Dominik (SVK) – Eysseric is a WC here and is a young prospect for French tennis. Back in 2007 he was finalist in boy’s AO and won the boy's doubles title in US Open in same year. He has limited experience and because of his rankings he needs to qualify for Challengers. He is only 4/7 in Challenger indoors. He is a left hander with solid baseline display and decent serve but he is on his first match of the year. He isn’t without practice as he came after a quarter-final in Futures indoors in his country. Hrbaty started the year good even that in Challenger level with a quarter-final in Heilbronn and a semi-final in Bergamo. He is more experienced then Eysseric and if he will not suffer a big let down he should take this one.
Cook Lester (USA) vs. Ouanna Josselyn (FRA) – The number two seed and one of the favorite for all thing, Ouanna will play against American Cook Lester. Lester Cook has lost 4 in a row on indoors and also has lost 4 in a row when opponent is a big server. The big left hander has a quarter-final in Honolulu this year but he has a poor record indoors, he is 1/8 in Challenger level in his career until now. The French Ouanna has an average record against lefties, he is 7/7 in Challenger level, but he plays good indoors and especially on home soil. Ouanna has a solid serve and generally a reliable second ball, solid baseline display and good hands to the net. He has a semi-final in Heilbronn indoors this year and a second round apparition in Marseille and we back him to win this one, but the odds are low.
Bohli Stephane (SUI) vs. Ascione Thierry (FRA) – Maybe one of the toughest match today. Ascione play good here in Cherbourg, he won the title back in 2008 and was the last year runner-up, also two quarter-finals back in 2003 and 2005. He is an average server, but is a good indoors player which is his second best surface. He plays an aggressive tennis indoors, strong backhand but can be dangerous if he finds his rhythm on serve. He has only a second round apparition in Heilbronn this year. H2h is 1-0 for French with a meeting back in 2004 indoors in qualification for Marseille. Bohli is a player who spent most of his time on fast courts. He has a powerful serve and solid ground strokes and he is used with the surface here and has good confidence in his game. He also has a second round apparition in Heilbronn but managed to qualify for two ATP tournaments indoors in Rotterdam and Marseille. He made a strong match against Benneteau in Marseille as he served powerful and frustrated the Frenchman who wasn’t able to break his serve. Bohli showed a strong form recently while Ascione has a lot of points to defend here, the match can go either way but we back Bohli with a small stake to take this one.
Kim Kevin (USA) vs. Michon Axel (FRA) – The Frenchman Michon is a young prospect for French tennis but has limited experience even in Challenger level. He is a leftie and his game reminds of Gasquet’s style but with two handed backhand and his favorite surface is clay. He is a WC here and he is on his first match of the year, but he will have a lot of support here as he is born not far by Cherbourg. He came after he made final in two Futures tournaments in Egypt on clay and his presence here surprised a little bit. Kevin Kim of USA at the age of 31 still competes and attempts to progress in the rankings. His chances are slim as he lacks consistency and top fitness level. He is a small type of player with fast legs and fairly solid baseline game. He made a second round in Chennai and a quarter-final in Heilbronn, but he is outplayed by powerful hitters or consistent baseliners. He is a deserved favorite and even that we expect Michon to put a lot of fight in this match, we still see Kim as the likely winner.
Crugnola Marco (ITA) vs. Rosol Lukas (CZE) – Rosol competes in single and also in double with some success. Last year he won a Futures in Mettman on carpet and Bergamo Challenger indoors. He managed to qualify for Vienna ATP tournament losing hard to Odesnik in first round. He has a strong serve and solid groundies which suits well on fast courts. Crugnola is playing preponderantly on clay, he made a lot of points on that surface but from time to time he adventures on faster courts too. He is only 11/12 in his career indoors and this year is yet to play on his favorite surface. Last year indoors he made two quarter-finals in three tournaments where he participated. H2h is 1-0 for Rosol with a meeting last year on clay. He also has a solid serve and solid baseline display but usually he lose against powerful servers who has the power to hit through defense and we back Rosol to win this one.Begemann Andre (GER) vs. Kudryavtsev Alexandre (RUS) – Kudryavtsev qualified here and is yet to lose a set in three matches. “My level of play improved game after game, and I felt tired after the second round. Fortunately, my last was easier because my opponent did not play at the end.” – said the Russian after he managed to qualify here. He has an overall game with solid serve and powerful shots, but sometimes goes too much on his shots. Begemann plays more on Futures level and has limited action in Challenger. He likes to play more on clay, which is his favorite surface, and sometimes play on hard courts outdoor. He is only 1/1 in Challenger indoors. He has a solid defense, compact shots from both sides and he isn’t comfortable to the net. Kudryavtsev is a qualifier here, he is used with the surface and even that he said that he feel a little bit tired we back him to win this one.
Sidorenko Alexandre (FRA) vs. Guez David (FRA) – A French affair. Sidorenko qualified in Zagreb, indoors last month and must be pleased with his performance as he isn’t a specialist indoors. He even won the first round, with another qualifier. He is a Challengers player who rarely enters main draw events, he won his first two matches in ATP last year on clay in Stuttgart, in four previous attempts. Sidorenko is a capable baseliner with solid defense, but he lacks the skills to stay in long rallies against clay court specialists. He likes more to play on clay then faster courts. He is 17/23 indoors in Challenger. Guez play good indoors, especially in France, he is 22/34 in Challenger indoors. He’s a very defensive player with no real stand-out shots in his armor but one who makes very few mistakes, he is robust from the back of the court, playing solid defensive tennis. He can frustrate all players with his low margin of errors, and he likes to play on fast surfaces. Guez made semi-final in Noumea and qualified for AO but then his form dropped losing three matches in a row while Sidorenko’s form is average, he qualified for Zagreb and lost the nest two matches. We back Guez to take this one, he is more used with the surface here, he has two quarter-finals back in 2007 and 2008, and with a good results here he will be approach of top 100.
Recouderc Laurent (FRA) vs. Kravchuk Konstantin (RUS) – Recourderc is a clay player, he is a consistent baseliner, without many weapons in attack but he doesn’t give cheap points. His form is average, second round in Johannesburg and second to Heilbronn Challenger. He entered like a lucky loser in Marseille but he lost to Rufin in first round. He is 6/10 indoors in Challenger, he played only last year here winning first round and losing in second. Kravchuk is a qualifier here, losing only one set in the last match of qualify. He has a powerful serve and big forehand, he plays an aggressive tennis even that sometimes goes too much on his shots. He made quarter-final in Kazan this year indoors. He is 12/3 in Challenger indoors. The Frenchman looks the better player from the baseline while the Russian has the upper hand on serve, he is used with the surface here and we back him to win this one against Recouderc.
Muller Gilles (LUX) vs. Jouan Romain (FRA) – Muller returned to action in Bergamo Challenger reaching the final. He beat powerful players to achieve that in Kukushkin, Przysiezny, Hrbaty playind four tie-breaks and winning all. He is a leftie with solid serve and attacking net player. Is expected to climb the rankings and this Challengers are useful for him. Romain qualified here beating Slanar, Patience and Minar in his first matches of the year. He played only in Futures this year, reaching a quarter-final in Great Britain and two semi-finals in France, all indoors. He has a solid serve and solid baseline display but has a poor record against lefties. He is 0/2 in Challenger and 6/7 in Futures against lefties. He has a lot of points to defend from last year as he made quarter-final coming from qualification. He has the game to remain competitive on the ground and tie-breaks should be seen and in some bookies the handicap of +3,5 games on Romain is tempting for a small bet on him. We see Muller as the likely winner here but we don’t see a one dimensional win.
Karanusic Roko (CRO) vs. Mahut Nicolas (FRA) – Mahut’s problems and his negative record against Karanusic might be a problem for a confident bet here. H2h is 3-0 for Croatian, two of them indoors, but the last meeting is back in 2007. Here is an interview with Mahut prior to Cherbourg Challenger: “I had not yet fully recovered from my shoulder injury. I could not use fully. It penalizes me most is the lack of games. The training does not replace the competition. Given my situation, the challengers are a necessary step to find a good ranking. And it is not easy because there are very good players.” He likes to play here as he has three quarter-finals, a title and a final in the last years. “People here have always supported me. I hope I have the same reception this year. Anyway, I am clearly in Cherbourg to win. But there will be as tough games, especially since I would not be seeded, so I can drop a tough game in the first round.” – concluded Mahut. Like he said, the luck of matches is his main problem, he has only two matches this year in qualification for Marseille. Karanusic came after a quarter-final in Belgrade. He has a decent record against the net-rushers and big servers. Karanusic is a capable offensive player with a lot of power in his game, but he is too inconsistent and impatient. He goes for too much and he easily gets angry with himself when he misses. He has a final played here back in 2004 and he is used to play indoors. The form speaks with Karanusic here while the confidence goes with Mahut and we back the Frenchman to take this one but with low confidence as still he is without practice.
Martin Fabrice (FRA) vs. Bemelmans Ruben (BEL) – Fabrice is a qualifier here as he past by Goodall, Slabinsky and Valent to enter the main draw. He still competes more on Futures level and plays in doubles too. He is only 0/1 in Challenger indoors and 11/16 in Futures, but he likes to play on fast courts as he has a strong serve and solid game. Against lefties he is 7/7 in Futures. Bemelmans has great angles in his shots, he has a solid serve to win a lot of cheap points behind that. He hits a lot of winners and he makes his opponent to run a lot. He plays an aggressive tennis staying on the baseline but also he advance to the net. The left hander qualified for two ATP tournaments indoors in Zagreb and Marseille and was close to win the first round there. Even that Fabrice is a qualifier here and has the game to stay close to Bemelmans we rate the Belgian as the better player and we back him to win this one.

Rotterdam is the top event this week and the first tournament from the 500 series. It is played indoors on a Greenset surface, which is one of the fastest surfaces indoors and overall on the tour. It is suitable for big serving players with attacking style, but good serve returners are also favoured. Llodra is last year’s champion beating Soderling in the final 7-6 in the decider. Top favourites Murray, Youzhny and Hewitt fell in the first round last season while Nadal, Ferrer and Davydenko lost in the second. Ljubicic has a good record in Rotterdam (15-6) and others worth mentioning are Davydenko (10-5), Youzhny (7-3), Djokovic (7-2) and Stepanek (9-3).
Buenos Aires tournament is an ATP 250 event played on clay courts. The courts are considered faster than those in Chile and Brazil which started the South American clay season. Players with more attacking style do well in Argentina and local are also favoured to win. Moya is 17-4 in Buenos Aires, Coria is 12-3, Lopez - 6-2. Nalbandian is the reigning champion and the list of recent winners includes Monaco, Moya and Gaudio. The weather is going to be sunny in the beginning of the week with temperatures around 30-35 C, but thunderstorms and rain are expected on Friday and Saturday with a drop to 25 C.
Delray Beach is the weakest event for the week – both in points and players. It has just one top 25 player in top seed Fish. It is played outdoors on Plexipave medium fast surface which is good for power hitting players with big serves. Nishikori took the title after coming from qualification last year and he has 8-0 record here. Lopez is 5-1 while clay court oriented American Odesnik is yet to get a victory. The weather is expected to be sunny with temperatures between 25 and 30 C.
